Xeriscaping
Derived from the Greek word “xeros” meaning dry, Xeriscaping centers around selecting native plant species for their drought tolerance and ability to thrive without extensive maintenance with its resultant waste.
Other sustainable landscape practices include:
- Water efficient irrigation such as drip systems
- Minimize lawn and hardscape areas
- Mulching
- Hydro-zoning or grouping plants according to their water needs
- Evaluate climate and exposure during design
- Soil and drainage assessment during design
- Proper soil preparation
- Control erosion and runoff
